Happy birthday, boys! I didn't buy you any pressies yet, but do let me know if you have any wishes (and no Ianto, it's not impolite to ask, since I'm asking you).
Love you both.
Love you both.
You Are Fencing |
![]() You're competitive but not brutally so. You compete to make yourself better. You find having an opponent to be challenging and rewarding. You are fierce when you're in a competition, but you don't wish your rivals any real harm. |
That sounds like me, although I'm totally rubbish at fencing. I don't do well with long, pointy objects.

You are The Star
Hope, expectation, Bright promises.
The Star is one of the great cards of faith, dreams realised
The Star is a card that looks to the future. It does not predict any immediate or powerful change, but it does predict hope and healing. This card suggests clarity of vision, spiritual insight. And, most importantly, that unexpected help will be coming, with water to quench your thirst, with a guiding light to the future. They might say you're a dreamer, but you're not the only one.
What Tarot Card are You?
Take the Test to Find Out.
Why don't we all, well, I don't know... go and do something fun? All of us? Perhaps go bowling, or organise a pool tournament, or maybe have a karaoke night? Anything to try and lighten our spirits a bit.

Engaged Idealist (EI)
The engaged idealist is an extroverted, helpful personality. Others find him to be very congenial and inspiring - especially as he is always willing to see the best in the other person. His humour, his energy and his optimism attract other people. The engaged idealist is very good at communicating and is good at convincing and firing on others. That is why it is a matter of course that he often takes over the leading role in groups. This personality type often produces very charismatic persons.
The engaged idealist has an unusually strong ability to empathise. He is tolerant and generous towards others; he sometimes tends to idealise his friends. He always tries to suit everybody and wants his relationships to be harmonious and satisfactory. To achieve this, he is prepared to invest a great deal and to put his requirements last. As the engaged idealist is very considerate, there is the danger of him sacrificing and overexerting himself for others. In his job, he therefore has to be very careful not to develop a burnout syndrome.
The engaged idealist is reliable, well organised and loves structuring complicated situations. He has difficulty accepting criticism; he quickly feels hurt and misunderstood. His perfectionism also influences his love life - he looks for the perfect relationship for life. Once he has made his decision, he is a faithful, well-balanced and loving partner. However, should he get involved with the wrong person, it can happen that he allows himself to be exploited for a long time before he ends the relationship.

Tell me what you love and hate about working for Torchwood. – Jack
Alright, if you're sure you want to know... ;)
Okay, let's start with the things I love. First and foremost I love the sense of being able to do something for others. I genuinely want to help and protect people. Make the world a better place, so to speak.
Secondly, I enjoy the things I learn every day. There's so much out there that I had no knowledge about, and while some of the things we get into contact with is quite malicious, it does contribute to my view of the world and the universe at large. The human race really is pretty much up itself, thinking we're the only intelligent life in the solar system. How wrong we all are to assume such a thing. There's still so much I want to see and do and most of it I wouldn't ever have heard about if it wasn't for Torchwood.
And last, but certainly not least, I care about my colleagues and you, Jack. You've all become my friends, good friends, and I wouldn't change working with you for the world.
The hating part is pretty much the same as it was while I was still working as a PC; not being able to save everyone, telling those left behind that someone they love has passed away, dealing with emotionally draining issues. It never gets any easier. To be honest, it's even harder to do it as a Torchwood employee. Nowadays I can't even tell the truth anymore to a heartbroken mother or worried spouse. I need to deliver lies to ease the pain. It's hard and something I hate to do, even though I understand the importance of it.
Which brings me to lying in general. I always considered myself to be an honest person, but since I work here I can't always be so open anymore. It hurts to have to lie to those I love and cherish and it's brought me many days and nights packed with worry and guilt trips.
But, at the end of the day, the positive parts of working for Torchwood outweigh the negative issues. I'm glad to be here, with you all, and I hope to be around for a long time to come.

Everyone has things they blog about. Everyone has things they don't blog about. Challenge me out of my comfort zone by telling me something I don't blog about, but you'd like to hear about, and I'll write a post about it. Ask for anything: latest movie watched, last book read, political leanings, thoughts on yaoi, favorite type of underwear, graphic techniques, etc. Repost in your own journal so that we can all learn more about each other.

You get to ask me one question.
Any one question.
Anything, no matter how crazy it is.
No catch.
But I dare you to repost this and see what people ask you."
